Rebecca Massie Lane’s background is in art museum management, curation, education, and fundraising. She recently retired as Director of the Museum of Fine Arts-Washington County (MFA-WC) where she served for twelve years. From its inception, she was a member of the Hagerstown Cultural Trail Advisory Committee, a municipal public art project. She received her B.A. in the Humanities and M.A. in Art History from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, transferring from Mary Washington College (now University) as one of the first women admitted to UVA. Before moving to Maryland, she was Director of Museums and Galleries, and Associate Professor and Program Director, Arts Management Program, at Sweet Briar College, VA. She was Director of the Knoxville Museum of Art, Knoxville, TN, where she oversaw a major physical expansion and rebranding. Prior to that, she served the curatorial and education departments at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond, VA.
